Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Ozark
Ozark, Missouri fishing revolves around a mix of clear Ozark streams and big reservoirs, giving anglers a versatile lineup of bass, crappie, catfish, and trout options. The Finley and James rivers flow right by town, while Table Rock Lake and Bull Shoals Lake are a short drive away, creating a hub for multispecies fishing in southwest Missouri.
Seasonal patterns are predictable if you watch water temperature. In late winter and early spring, bass in Table Rock and Bull Shoals stage on secondary points and channel swings; jerkbaits, Alabama rigs, and finesse jigs excel. As water hits the low 60s, prespawn and spawn push fish shallow in coves and pea-gravel pockets. Crappie stack on brush and standing timber at 8–15 feet, and small hair jigs or minnows under slip bobbers are the go‑to.
Summer shifts the game to deeper structure. On the lakes, largemouth and spotted bass school on main-lake points, humps, and ledges in 18–35 feet; drop-shot rigs, football jigs, and deep-diving crankbaits catch numbers and size. Night fishing becomes prime for bass and catfish—slow-rolling spinnerbaits along rocky banks after dark can be outstanding. On the Finley and James rivers, hot-weather smallmouth and goggle-eye slide into faster runs and boulder-strewn pockets; 3–4 inch finesse plastics on light jigheads, small topwaters, and inline spinners work best.
Fall brings some of the most consistent action around Ozark. Cooling water pushes shad shallow, and bass follow into creeks and flats. Cover water quickly with squarebills, spinnerbaits, and walking topwaters, then slow down with Ned rigs or shaky heads when you locate schools. Crappie pull back to mid-depth brush, and vertical jigging with small plastics shines. As winter sets in, focus on steep bluff banks and channel swings on Table Rock and Bull Shoals with jigging spoons and blade baits; on the rivers, work slower with jigs and suspending jerkbaits around deeper holes.
Key habitats vary by waterbody. The Finley and James rivers are classic Ozark streams—clear, rocky, with riffle-run-pool sequences. Target current breaks: eddies behind boulders, the heads and tails of pools, and undercut banks. Light spinning tackle with 4–8 lb line and compact, natural-colored baits will draw more bites in the clear water. On the reservoirs, think structure: long tapering points, submerged timber, rock transitions, and brush piles are high-percentage areas for bass and crappie.
Practical tactics around Ozark include:
- Carry both power and finesse setups; clear water often requires downsizing line and lures.
- In rivers, wade quietly and cast upstream or quartering upstream to let baits drift naturally with the current.
- On lakes, use electronics to locate bait and fish relating to points, brush, and channel edges before committing time to casting.
- Match lure color to water clarity—natural greens and browns in clear conditions, more contrast and flash after rain or in low light.
With a compact radius of rivers and big lakes, Ozark offers something productive nearly every month of the year, whether you’re wading for smallmouth, chasing reservoir bass, filling a cooler with crappie, or targeting catfish after dark.
