Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Fremont
Fremont fishing revolves around a mix of stocked reservoirs, urban lakes, and tidal marshes that connect to the southern San Francisco Bay. The centerpiece for freshwater anglers is the Quarry Lakes system just east of town, with Lake Elizabeth at Central Park and smaller ponds filling in close-to-home options. Meanwhile, the shoreline around Coyote Hills and nearby bayfront access points put you within range of stripers, perch, bat rays, and more.
Seasonally, trout dominate the cool months in Fremont. From late fall through early spring, Quarry Lakes is regularly stocked with rainbow trout, and water temps are ideal for power bait and spoon tactics. Focus on mornings after a planting, working points, drop-offs, and any inflowing channels. As water warms in late spring, trout push deeper and become a low-light target; this is when many anglers switch to trolling or fan-casting deeper flats with spinners or small minnow plugs.
Once the trout bite fades, warmwater species take over. Largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, black crappie, and catfish are the mainstay from late spring through early fall. In Fremont’s lakes, bass stage around riprap, submerged structure, and weed edges. Early and late in the day, throw weightless soft plastics, topwater walkers, and buzzbaits along shoreline cover. Midday, downsize to finesse plastics on light line, worked slowly near bottom transitions or around any visible structure like docks and rocky points.
Catfish provide reliable action on summer evenings and after dark. Channel and white catfish in Quarry Lakes and other Fremont ponds respond well to cut mackerel, nightcrawlers, chicken liver, or prepared stink baits. Fish your rigs on the bottom with a slip sinker and enough weight to hold in light breeze. Focus on coves, inlets, and any area with a soft, mucky bottom where scent will disperse.
Lake Elizabeth in Central Park is a classic urban fishery. Here, anglers encounter bass, panfish, and carp, with occasional catfish. For quick sessions, walk the shoreline and cast small jigs, inline spinners, or 2–3 inch swimbaits around visible weed beds and drop-offs. Carp specialists do well by chumming lightly with sweet corn or doughballs and fishing a small hook with little or no weight. Light spinning tackle or a sensitive float rod helps detect subtle bites in this pressured environment.
On the salt side, Fremont’s proximity to Coyote Hills and the southern Bay makes for solid striped bass, surfperch, and ray fishing when tides and weather line up. Best action comes on moving tides—especially incoming water that floods the marsh edges and rock banks. For stripers, cast 4–6 inch soft-plastic swimbaits, bucktail jigs, or small topwaters along current seams and around any visible structure or breaks in the shoreline. At night or during turbid tides, darker lures that push water often outproduce flashier baits.
Bay edges and nearby piers are also productive for bat rays, leopard sharks, and a mix of perch and smelt. Use stout gear and a sliding sinker rig with squid or oily cut bait for rays and sharks, focusing on channel edges adjacent to mudflats. Lighter tackle with small hooks tipped with pile worms or shrimp targets surfperch and smelt; cast just beyond the shore break or near pilings and let the rig sit in gentle current.
Success in Fremont’s fisheries hinges on reading conditions. In lakes, watch clarity and weed growth; adjust from bright, flashy lures in stained water to natural, subtle presentations in clear conditions. On the Bay side, consult tide charts and focus your efforts on the first and last two hours of moving water. Traveling light, covering shoreline efficiently, and matching presentation to season will consistently produce fish in and around Fremont.

Beaches and Bays are ideal places for land-based fishing. If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes. We found 4 beaches and bays in this area.
