Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 14:31 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

We can compare the current moon distance to it's minimum and maximum distance from earth and express that as proximity. A high proximity means the moon is closer to earth. At 50% it would be at it's mean distance. A high proximity causes big tides, currents and has a direct effect on increased bite times. A proximity greater than 90% indicates a super moon.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. Fishing Overview Muskogee

Muskogee, Oklahoma fishing revolves around a big‑river system and a major reservoir network, giving anglers current‑driven river bites and classic lake patterns in one hub. The Arkansas River and its navigation pools, plus the nearby Fort Gibson Lake, provide a mix of rocky ledges, flooded timber, riprap, backwater sloughs, and man‑made structure that consistently hold gamefish through the seasons.

Seasonal patterns start with an early spring push of catfish, crappie, and bass moving shallow. On Fort Gibson Lake and in calmer backwaters off the Arkansas, crappie stack on brush piles, docks, and flooded willows; 1/16–1/8 oz tube jigs and marabou jigs in chartreuse/white or black/chartreuse are staples. Largemouth bass slide up on rocky banks and staging points, where medium‑diving crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and Texas‑rigged creature baits draw strikes. Spring river levels often fluctuate, so targeting eddies and inside bends with slower current is key.

By late spring and throughout summer, current becomes the dominant factor on the Arkansas, Verdigris, and Grand rivers. Blue and channel catfish concentrate on ledges, below wing dikes, and along scour holes below dams. Productive tactics include anchoring just upstream of a break and drifting cut shad, skipjack, or stinkbait back into the seam. Flatheads favor rock and wood cover; live sunfish or shad presented tight to submerged brush or riprap after dark score the most consistent bites.

Warm‑weather bass fishing around Muskogee centers on current breaks and deep structure. On Fort Gibson Lake, offshore humps, creek channel swings, and main‑lake points come alive with largemouth and spotted bass. Carolina‑rigged plastics, football jigs, and deep crankbaits in shad or craw colors excel when fish are schooling on shad. In the river itself, focus on riprap banks near locks, barge tie‑offs, and submerged wing dikes with spinnerbaits, squarebills, and jigs pitched into shade pockets.

Striped, hybrid, and white bass offer explosive action, especially around dams, power‑generation areas, and wind‑blown main‑lake points. In late spring and early summer, watch for surface schooling activity and birds working shad. Keep a box of 1/2–3/4 oz slab spoons, swimbaits on 1/4–3/8 oz heads, and small topwaters ready; long casts into current seams and boils often trigger multiple fish from a single school.

Fall brings baitfish migrations into creeks and backwater areas, concentrating multiple species. Bass, white bass, and crappie push shallow again, responding well to shad‑imitating crankbaits, small swimbaits, and vertical jigging on brush. Catfish remain active on cut bait along mid‑river ledges. As water cools further into winter, most species slide deeper; slow your presentation with vertical jigging spoons, drop‑shot rigs, and tight‑lined live bait on channel edges and deep bluff walls, especially on Fort Gibson.

Key habitat and tactical tips around Muskogee include reading current and targeting transitions: rock‑to‑mud banks, channel‑to‑flat edges, and hard‑bottom humps. Side‑imaging sonar is extremely valuable for locating brush piles, shell beds, and hidden wing dikes. In muddy or rising water, upsize baits, lean on dark silhouettes and vibration (spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, rattling cranks), and fish tight to cover. In clearer, stable conditions, finesse jigs, shakey heads, and smaller swimbaits produce more consistent bites.

  • For rivers: prioritize current seams, eddies behind logjams, and the downstream side of rock structures.
  • For Fort Gibson Lake: work main‑lake points, creek‑channel bends, and man‑made brush piles marked by locals.
  • For multispecies action: carry both live bait (shad, sunfish, nightcrawlers) and a small selection of jigs, crankbaits, and soft plastics to adjust quickly.

With the diversity of water surrounding Muskogee, anglers who pay attention to flow, water color, and seasonal movements can stay on quality fish twelve months a year.

Beaches and Bays are ideal places for land-based fishing. If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes.
