Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Conway
Conway, Arkansas fishing revolves around two main systems: shallow, stump-filled Lake Conway and the Arkansas River just west of town, supplemented by city lakes and ponds. Each fishery has its own rhythm, so success hinges on understanding how seasonal patterns, water levels, and cover dictate fish location and lure choice.
On Lake Conway, spring is prime time for crappie, bass, and bream. Crappie slide into shallow cypress flats and flooded buckbrush when water temps hit the low 50s. Target the first substantial cover off creek channels with small tube jigs, marabou jigs, or 1/16–1/8 oz minnows under fixed floats. Move frequently until you find a pod of fish; they often stack on a single log or tree in this shallow, fertile lake. Largemouth bass push shallow at the same time, relating to stumps, laydowns, and cypress knees. Weightless soft stickbaits, 3/8 oz spinnerbaits, and squarebill crankbaits deflected off wood draw reaction strikes in the stained water.
As summer sets in, Lake Conway’s bass and catfish respond best at low light. Focus dawn, dusk, and night around main-lake stumps and dock lights. A black buzzbait or frog worked over shallow flats can produce explosive blowups early and late. During the day, pitch Texas-rigged creature baits into the thickest cover available and work them painstakingly slow. For catfish, anchor on channel edges or outside bends and use cut shad, stink bait, or nightcrawlers on slip-sinker rigs; give each spot 20–30 minutes before relocating. Bluegill and redear stay reliable all summer around visible wood—small worms or crickets under a float are hard to beat.
Fall on both Lake Conway and the Arkansas River is about bait movement. Shad and small bream push into backwaters and coves, pulling bass and white bass shallow. Shallow-running crankbaits, lipless cranks, and 3–4 inch swimbaits burned over flats or along riprap will locate active fish. On the river, target current seams below wing dikes, rock piles, and sandbar tips where bait funnels through. A 1/4–1/2 oz jig with a craw trailer or a Carolina rigged creature bait dragged slowly along breaks is a consistent big-fish approach.
Winter concentrates fish. On Lake Conway, crappie stack in deeper standing timber, ditches, and creek channels. Vertical jigging with small plastics or hair jigs right in the cover is key—use electronics or a systematic grid approach to find them. On the Arkansas River, bass and catfish tuck into slower current areas: eddies behind points, inside bends, barge tie-offs, and deeper holes near the main channel. Heavy jigging spoons, blade baits, or live bait presented tight to the bottom are productive.
Conway’s shore fishing options are strong. City lakes and public bank access around Lake Conway and the river allow anglers without boats to stay in the game. Look for public piers, riprap, bridge crossings, and culvert inflows—these concentrate fish and provide predictable ambush spots. Scale down to 6–8 lb line, use simple slip-float rigs for panfish, and small crankbaits or finesse plastics for bass.
Across all seasons, success in Conway comes from matching your approach to the water: power fishing moving baits when conditions are active, then slowing down with jigs, live bait, or finesse rigs when fronts, muddy water, or heavy pressure push fish tight to cover.

If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes. We found 2 beaches and bays in this area.
