Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Angleton
Angleton is centrally located between the Brazos River, Oyster Creek, and the upper Texas Coast bay systems, giving anglers multiple directions to fish. Within a short drive you can be launching into Bastrop, Christmas, or West Galveston Bay, or slipping a jon boat into a quiet Brazoria County lake or bayou. This mix of brackish marsh, tidal bay, and freshwater creeks makes the Angleton area productive 12 months of the year.
Seasonal patterns around Angleton follow classic upper-coast trends. In late winter and early spring, speckled trout and redfish stack along deeper bayou bends, channel edges, and turning basins near Surfside and along the Intracoastal, where soft plastics on 1/8โ1/4 oz jigheads and slow-suspending twitchbaits shine. By late spring and summer, bait floods the bays; waders and drifters target shell reefs and windward shorelines in Bastrop and Christmas Bays with topwaters at first light, then switch to paddle tails and shrimp imitations as the sun climbs.
Fall is prime time for Angleton-area redfish. North winds push shrimp out of the marsh drains, and reds, trout, and flounder gang up at drain mouths and along grass edges. Work the falling tide with popping corks and live or artificial shrimp, or bounce Gulp and curly-tail jigs along the bottom for flounder. Winter finds fish sliding into deeper bayous, the Brazos River, and nearby harbor basins. Slow down with soft plastics and MirrOlure-style plugs fished painfully slow near the bottom; the coldest days can produce the heaviest trout of the year.
Freshwater options near Angleton center on the Brazos River, Oyster Creek, and scattered stock tanks and small lakes. Largemouth bass relate to laydowns, riprap, and culverts; spinnerbaits, squarebill crankbaits, and Texas-rigged worms in natural shad or green pumpkin patterns draw strikes. Catfish respond well to punch baits, cut shad, and chicken livers fished on simple slip-sinker rigs in deeper bends and holes, especially after local rains stain the water and add current.
Habitat drives success here. In the bays, focus on oyster reefs, scattered shell, and mudโshell transitions, especially where they intersect with drains or small points that funnel current. In the marshes and bayous, grass lines, intersections of ditches, and the first significant depth change off a flat are consistent producers. For freshwater, look for current seams, eddies behind timber, and undercut banks on the Brazos and Oyster Creek.
Tactical tips for Angleton anglers start with reading wind and tide. On strong onshore wind days, fish wind-blown shorelines and reefs where bait is pinned; on calm or light wind mornings, topwaters over shallow shell can be deadly. In off-color water, choose louder, darker baits; in the clear backlakes and bayous, scale down to smaller, more natural presentations. Kayaks and shallow-draft boats excel for slipping into marsh lakes and tight bayous, while bank fishing can be productive near public bridges, culverts, and park access along local creeks.
Live baitโshrimp, croaker, and mulletโworks everywhere around Angleton, but anglers who learn local tides, structure, and seasonal movements can do just as well with artificials. Keep a small selection of paddletail plastics in white, chartreuse, and natural baitfish colors, a couple of topwaters, and a few jigheads, and youโre equipped to catch fish across nearly every habitat this region offers.

If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes.
