Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Conroe
Lake Conroe fishing is driven by structure, water clarity, and seasonal movements. Largemouth bass are the headline species, but hybrid stripers, crappie, and catfish make this one of Southeast Texas’ most versatile lakes. The south end is more developed with docks and seawalls, while the mid-lake and north end offer creek channels, standing timber, and offshore structure that consistently hold fish.
Spring is prime time on Conroe. Bass push shallow into pockets, bulkheads, and flooded shoreline cover as water climbs into the 60s. Focus on protected coves on the south and mid-lake sections with Texas-rigged creature baits, weightless soft plastics, and shallow-running crankbaits. Sight-fishing can be productive when the water clears. Crappie stack on brush piles, bridges, and pilings in 8–15 feet; small jigs and minnows fished vertically around man-made brush produce limits when you stay on the move and hop piles until you find active fish.
Summer shifts the bite deeper. Bass set up on main-lake points, humps, and the river channel. Graph to find bait and isolated structure in 15–25 feet, then work deep-diving crankbaits, Carolina rigs, and football jigs along breaks and shell beds. Night fishing around lighted docks can be excellent for bass and panfish using small swimbaits and finesse worms. Hybrid striped bass school offshore, especially early and late in the day; watch for bird activity and surface feeding, then cast spoons or small swimbaits through the school, or vertically jig over bait balls you mark on sonar.
Fall brings a strong shad-driven pattern. Bass push shallow again, roaming wind-blown banks, marinas, and backs of creeks. Cover water with spinnerbaits, squarebills, and flukes around baitfish; when the bite slows, switch to finesse plastics on shaky heads around docks and concrete bulkheads. Crappie regroup on deeper brush in 15–25 feet and can be plucked steadily by keeping your bait just above the pile and using light line for more bites in the typically clear fall water.
Winter anglers on Conroe lean on offshore structure and slow presentations. Bass hold along steep channel swings, deep docks, and vertical timber. Jigs, blade baits, and shaky heads crawled slowly on bottom work best on sunny afternoons when fish slide slightly shallower. Blue and channel catfish remain reliable: anchor or drift over river-channel ledges and flats adjacent to deep water, using fresh cut shad or punch bait on slip rigs. Crappie concentrate even tighter to deep brush and bridge pilings; precise boat control and electronics become critical.
Across all seasons, the most consistent producers on Lake Conroe are man-made structure and edges: brush piles, dock pilings, riprap, and channel breaks. Investing time in electronics to find subtle depth changes and hidden brush pays off more than simply bank-beating. Downsizing line in clear water, fishing early and late to avoid heavy boat traffic, and targeting wind-blown areas where bait stacks up are simple, high-impact tactics that separate occasional bites from truly productive days on Conroe.
