Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview San Angelo
San Angelo’s fishing revolves around three main lakes—Twin Buttes Reservoir, Lake Nasworthy, and O.C. Fisher Reservoir—plus the North and South Concho rivers that wind through town. This cluster of waters gives anglers a mix of power-plant lake, lowland reservoir, and river habitat, all within a short drive, making San Angelo a strong year‑round fishing base in West Texas.
Seasonal patterns are dominated by big winter-summer swings. In late winter and early spring, prespawn largemouth bass push shallow into flooded brush, coves, and creek arms on Twin Buttes and Nasworthy. Slow-rolled spinnerbaits, lipless crankbaits, and Texas-rigged creature baits worked around any wood or rock transitions produce well. Crappie stage on timber and bridge pilings before sliding into shallow brush when the water warms; small jigs in natural shad or chartreuse patterns are top producers.
By late spring and early summer, early-morning topwater fishing takes off across all three lakes. Walk-the-dog plugs and buzzbaits along rocky banks, riprap, and weed edges on Nasworthy consistently draw quality bass. As the sun climbs, fish pull to deeper points, channel swings, and submerged roadbeds; Carolina rigs, deep-diving crankbaits, and football jigs become the go-to. White bass and hybrid stripers, where present, will school on main-lake points and humps—watch for surface activity and cast chrome spoons or small swimbaits into breaking fish.
Summer on San Angelo lakes means heat and falling light levels; focus efforts at dawn, dusk, and after dark. Nighttime shoreline fishing for channel and blue catfish is excellent around both Twin Buttes and O.C. Fisher. Fan-cast cut shad, punch bait, or chicken liver on slip rigs along windblown banks, creek mouths, and submerged channel edges. During the day, target deeper ledges and old river channels with the same baits, downsizing terminal tackle when the bite is finicky.
Fall brings some of the most comfortable and consistent action. Cooling water pulls shad shallow, and bass, white bass, and crappie follow. Work shallow crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and small swimbaits around bait schools in coves and along rocky shorelines. The Concho River through and above town can quietly shine in fall for mixed bags of bass, sunfish, and drum—light spinning tackle, 1/16–1/8 oz jigs, and small finesse worms catch numbers and occasional surprises.
Key habitat types and tactical tips in San Angelo include:
- Riprap and bridge pylons: Prime for crappie, bass, and white bass; vertically jig small plastics or tight-line minnows along the edges.
- Flooded brush and timber: Flip Texas-rigged soft plastics, compact jigs, or creature baits with stout line to pull fish out of cover.
- Main-lake points and humps: Idle with electronics to locate bait, then work the structure with Carolina rigs, spoons, or deep cranks.
- River runs and current seams: In the Concho, cast small crankbaits and in-line spinners into current breaks, letting lures sweep naturally.
- Marinas and docks on Nasworthy: Target shade lines with weightless stickbaits and wacky rigs for pressured bass in clear conditions.
With varied water, strong forage bases, and easy access, San Angelo rewards anglers who adjust to seasonal shifts, pay attention to bait and structure, and rotate between lake and river options to stay on fish all year.
