Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Sherman
Sherman, Texas fishing is built around nearby Lake Texoma, one of the premier inland striped bass fisheries in the United States. Just a short drive north of town, Texoma offers big open-water structure, creek arms, and coves that hold gamefish all year. Add in local ponds, the Red River system, and smaller lakes within easy driving distance, and Sherman gives anglers a ton of options in every season.
Seasonal patterns around Sherman start with spring prespawn and spawning movements. From late February through April, largemouth bass slide shallow into flooded brush, rocky banks, and creek channels on Texoma and small nearby lakes. Fish soft plastics, jigs, and bladed jigs around protected pockets and secondary points. Crappie stack up on brush piles, bridge pilings, and docks in 8–15 feet; small minnows and 1/16–1/8 oz jigs under a slip float are reliable. White bass and striped bass stage on main-lake points and channel swings; work 3–4 inch soft plastics on jigheads or small swimbaits along breaks.
Summer fishing near Sherman centers on deep structure and low-light windows. By June, stripers on Lake Texoma push into open water, chasing shad over humps and ledges in 20–40 feet. Watch for surface schooling early and late, then drop slab spoons or heavy jigs vertically when they sound. Largemouth bass often hold on main-lake points, riprap, and timber edges; Carolina rigs, deep-diving crankbaits, and 1/2 oz football jigs excel. Night fishing is productive for both bass and catfish—target lighted docks and riprap with crankbaits for bass, and anchor along channel edges with cut shad or prepared baits for blue and channel catfish.
Fall brings some of the most consistent action around Sherman. Cooling water pulls bait into creeks and coves, and nearly every species follows. Stripers and white bass push shad to the surface along windy banks and points; chrome topwaters, walk-the-dog baits, and 1/2 oz spoons shine. Bass key on shad too, making squarebills, spinnerbaits, and small swimbaits prime choices in the backs of creeks. Crappie regroup on mid-depth brush; use electronics to hop from pile to pile, keeping presentations tight to cover.
Winter fishing is all about slowing down and finding the right depth. Stripers and catfish concentrate on deeper channels and flats near the river and major creek arms. Vertical jigging spoons, flukes on heavy heads, and deadsticking soft plastics will draw strikes from lethargic stripers. For blue catfish, focus on structural edges in 25–45 feet with fresh cut bait. Largemouth bass gravitate to steep rock and bluff walls; jerkbaits, finesse jigs, and drop shots worked slowly can produce quality bites even in cold water.
Across the Sherman area, key tactical tips make a big difference. Wind is your friend on Texoma—wind-blown points, flats, and banks concentrate bait and stripers. Electronics are crucial for locating schools offshore and pinpointing crappie on brush. Carry both live bait and artificials; shad and minnows often turn a slow day into a steady bite. Finally, don’t overlook small local ponds and community lakes around Sherman for quick trips; simple setups with Texas-rigged worms, small jigs, and bobber-and-worm rigs consistently catch bass, bluegill, and channel catfish close to town.
