Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Victoria
Victoria, Texas fishing is all about leveraging its strategic location between the middle Texas coast and productive inland rivers. Most anglers use Victoria as a hub, fishing the Guadalupe and San Antonio Rivers close to town, or trailering 45–60 minutes to Port O’Connor, Seadrift, and San Antonio Bay for saltwater action. This mix of inshore bays, marsh drains, and river holes means something is biting nearly every month of the year.
Seasonal patterns are key. From late fall through early spring, speckled trout and redfish stack in deeper bay channels, ICW edges, and warming mud flats near Port O’Connor and Seadrift. Wade anglers do well on sunny afternoons over dark bottom with soft plastics and slow-suspening twitchbaits. Spring ushers in schooling trout on shell reefs across San Antonio and Espiritu Santo bays, while redfish roam shorelines and backlakes; drifting reefs with paddle-tail plastics under popping corks is a go-to pattern.
Summer around Victoria brings strong coastal variety. Early and late, work shallow grass and sand pockets for tailing redfish with topwaters and weedless spoons. By mid-morning, slide deeper to reef edges, channel breaks, and jetties for trout, black drum, and sheepshead. Free-lined live shrimp, croaker, or soft plastics on 1/8–1/4 oz jigheads produce consistently. Calm summer mornings also open up nearshore and occasional offshore runs from Port O’Connor for king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, cobia, and red snapper when conditions allow.
In freshwater near Victoria, the Guadalupe River, local ponds, and small lakes offer steady action. Spring pre-spawn and spawn are prime for largemouth bass around laydowns, rock transitions, and outside bends. Use Texas-rigged worms, jigs, and squarebill crankbaits to pick apart current breaks and submerged timber. Summer pushes bass tight to shade and deeper holes; focus on undercut banks, bridge pilings, and deeper bends with Carolina rigs, big worms, or small swimbaits.
Catfish and panfish provide reliable year-round fishing for local anglers. Channel and blue catfish concentrate below riffles, in deep bends, and around logjams. Stink bait, cut shad, and punch baits on slip rigs or simple bottom rigs excel. For family-friendly action, target bluegill and redear sunfish with small pieces of worm or crickets under a float around brush, docks, and gentle current seams.
Tactical tips for the Victoria area start with reading water and wind. On the coast, use the prevailing southeast breeze by setting drifts across shell, grasslines, or drain mouths, adjusting drift socks and trolling motors to keep lures in the strike zone. Light to medium spinning or baitcasting tackle with 10–20 lb braid and fluorocarbon leaders covers most inshore situations. In rivers, scale down line for clearer water and finesse presentations, but upsize leaders around heavy timber and rock. Always pay attention to tide tables near Port O’Connor and Seadrift, and to river levels on the Guadalupe; moving water nearly always improves the bite.

Beaches and Bays are ideal places for land-based fishing. If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes. We found 5 beaches and bays in this area.
