Anyone out there with bait tips for shore based fishing?
Havn't had much luck with squid & pillies .....someone mentioned mussels?

Pretty tough fishing in Auckland at the moment. Especially from the shore.
Went out on my kayak yesterday to kawa kawa bay and got nothing.
Perhaps better to wait until new moon and try early morning when there is a major or minor time just after sunrise.

As for bait - you gotta use as fresh as possible bait and loads of good quality berley.
Squid should work at this time of year cause there a quite a few squid swimming around.
Not many fish around though - gotta be lucky to attract one and then hook it as well.

Its actually a good time of year to catch squid. If you don't have much luck catching fish you could try getting a few squid jigs and try to catch some of those. They are quite delicious in all sorts of dishes when freshly caught.
