G'day,

I have a cabin on the Loddon River at Bridgewater Victoria and spend at least half my time there fishing without much success. At best I only catch a fish every now and then. I'ts a magnificent place just to be.

I've just spent a week camping beside a bloke that swears by the Solunar Theory. I had heard of them before but thought it was hocus pokus. I spent a full day fishing with him and he explained the Solunar Theory. We didn't catch any fish but had heaps of bites. I usually don't even get that so I started to think there might be something in it.

The clincher was that during his 3 day stay he caught 17 fish. I and a mate caught nothing. So I've signed up.

I'll let you know how I go.

Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like your new friend might have been doing something different. Like washing his hands with aniseed soap or maybe using X factor fish attractant. etc.

What bait were you using ?

G'day,

No, didn't use anything except he would only use shrimp as bait.

Ah..He would only use shrimp...and what bait were you using ??

The solunar clock does work as far as I am concerned. So the fish were on the bite, he landed 17 to your 0.

We are Aussie...what sort of shrimp was he using? Was it prawn or nipper or yabbie...???

I am smelling a rat in your new friend...albeit a friendly and welcome rat, a X factor or aniseed using rat nonetheless...

No, he used no aniseed etc. I was using yabby and bardy grub during the period. He was using fresh water shrimp caught on site. His technique is to drop the bait right in amongst the snag meaning it is sometimes difficult to retrieve.

Yesterday afternoon during a major lunar period, shrimp as bait and his technique I landed a yellow belly and a Redfin, lost two at the surface, had 2 hookup and snag and had 2 follow the bait to the surface without taking it. It was a half hour session toward the end of the lunar period. I couldn't get the bait on quick enough.

I saw this type of activity years ago with Redfin. On for half an hour then nothing. I didn't know anything about lunar tables then.

End result, I'm about 80% convinced about the lunar tables and will call the rest coincidence. I suspect that over time the 80%will increase.
