I have just joined this site, i mainly fish for Pike here in Scotland and i am looking to see if there is evidence to substantiate the correlation of best times to my catches.

The real question, should be why after hundreds or even thousands of years, no one has produced evidence to show it does not work !

I know someone that might be going to Scotland later this year. Leave some pike for him...

Where in Scotland are you fishing?

Id be keen on some fishing tips for Scotland.
I have visited Scotland a few times, but I have never fished there.
Would love to give it a go on my next visit.

I guess I would need to purchase a permit somewhere to get started.

as for the fishing times:
If you're looking for evidence, you would need to keep a fishing diary and correlate your catches with the fishing times.
Or find someone with a fishing diary and compare with fishing times from the past.
As so many others, you'll would most likely discover that most of your catches are during the major or minor times.

If you fish mainly land-based and in shallower water, you would probably discover that most of your catches correlate with those days where major or minor times are near sunrise or sunset. Those times are marked in bold on the calendar.

Thanks for your correspondence, I fish around south west Scotland, and mainly fish from my boat for the Pike,where about in Scotland do you visit? and what species are you interested in catching, this would determine licence requirements.

I'll be in the area north of Glasgow.
Was thinking for heading to the Loch Lomond National Park or to the west coast area.
The whole area looks very promising with lots of bodies of water everywhere.

I wont have a boat so will have to try my luck from the shore and I prefer lure fishing.
Pike sounds good. What else can be caught there?

Do you know if one can purchase a tourist license for a few weeks for this area?

If you are fishing from the shore you don't need permit or licence, also in Scotland you don't require a rod licence as is required in England,pike are found in a lot of inland lochs and rivers but you may need land owners permission to fish for coarse fish and a permit to fish for game species (trout & salmon)
Or you could pay to fish, stocked waters for trout

hi, i fish for pike here in the north east of england, i always look at the charts and times before i go fishing although i can only fish when i have time so picking and choosing best days etc is not always an option.
i have noticed some correlation between the bite times indicated and actual runs on the bank, though i dont know if this is a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy as around the times runs are expected i am starting to change and recast baits, twitching baits etc possibly inducing a take anyway regardless of moon phase
