Hey Guys might want to check sunrise times for Sunday 2nd April 2017. Daylight savings ends at 2am that day not the next as shown in your sunrise times.

Only a White man can cut 2" from the top of a blanket & sew it to the bottom of the blanket then think he has a longer blanket!

give a man afish & he will eat for a meal! teach a man to fish & he will disappear all weekend drinking beer with his mates!!

Daylight savings is actually an American (USA) invention....and it has some merit...me thinks.

Rare event, I know, but some merit it has.

It moves time to add one hour of extra morning and give one hour of extra afternoon. According to the clock that is. Think of it like this...Imagine if the standard working day started at 3am and ended at 11am. You would have a good 6 hours of daylight to do stuff like fishing, in winter, and even more daylight in summer !!

So the Yanks came up with this idea of moving the clock hands twice a year to give an extra hour of daylight in summer based on the working day. Guess that was easier than changing the working day and be done with it !! Easier to keep the standard working day at 9am to 5pm and just change the clock hands.

Didn't mean to start a blog on the merits and origins of daylight savings but since it has deviated to that here is my tuppence worth.

The basis of daylight savings is a piece of legislation that demands you get out of bed an hour earlier when it is warmer. Back in the 60's when daylight savings legislation was enacted in those states that have it, it took a referendum of people to agree they needed to be told to get up earlier, figure that.

Oh and if you wonder why Queensland doesn't have daylight savings, well back then Joh Bjelke-Petersen was Premier of Queensland and he reckoned the "sun shined out of his arse"..... and he wasn't getting up early for anyone.

Hi Bristle,

No worries mate...You did not start anything.

My post was more in reply to Fisho dave.

Joh ??? You MEAN Joh....don't you worry about that I flew my helicopter up the road peanuts...don't you worry about that my wife bakes scones...don't you worry about that I flew my helicopter up the road bananas....

type Joh ??

Yep Flo (his wife) who made the famous Pumpkin scones, that Joh. Very opinionated and pro Queensland. Joh staunchly refused to trial or put daylight savings to a referendum.

A peanut farmer originally who ironically died in Tassie (the first state to have daylight savings)

Oh, he died in Tassie did he? I didn't know that...But then again, that shows how much interest I have in the man...He was very "captivating"

Yeah...That is her. Flo. Yeah Flo...don't you worry about that, I flew Joh's helicopter up the road peanuts and pumpkin scones...type Flo

I was way to young at the time to understand politics...But I was old enough to know to never trust a man that constantly said "don't you worry about that".

Tassie only got daylight savings first, because they actually thought they were saving something...like a frog or caterpillar or something
