Slow mid summer fishing in Auckland, New Zealand? | Category: Fishing Talk

Hi Guys

Has anyone had much luck with fishing around Auckland these days?
I'm planning to go out tomorrow. People have been telling me that fishing is very slow at the moment.

Seems it's a little too hot for some decent fishing in shallow waters, unless it's very early or late in the day.

Was thinking of heading out to Kawa Kawa Bay and fish of my kayak.

Hey man,
How the heck are ya? Good to see your still fishin, didnt you have a hole in the kayak? I bet you could help alot of people by re counting how you fixed it!! Unless you just bought another one. Anybody could do that huh? So what have you caught? By the way one of my sons signed up for your iphone fishing times app quite by accident and he loves it ha ha......I was a little surprised when he told me "I got this cool thing for the phone dad" I told him its the best site for fishing times hands down nobody comes close.!!

Hey Booyah

All is good over here. Got out yesterday and caught my limit ( 5 beautiful snapper ) during the major times.

Yeah I kinda fixed that crack in my kayak with some epifill
Seems to be holding tight - but doesn't look very professional, rather embarrassing
Not too confident going out too far from shore though, in case I have to swim back

Haha - that's a coincidence with your son. Glad he likes the app.

How are things on your end? Are you fishing at the moment or is it too tough during winter?

Cheers

I had the tub out once in january on a rare warm weekend74 degrees and we caught four nice stripers but so far into feb its been too cold to go and enjoy it. The fish we caught were put into the smoker and came out kinda poor cuz I oversmoked em. I didnt have enough heat and ended up basically cold smoking the
fillets and they were kinda bitter. I have since smoked a couple and imparted more heat and less smoke and they were much more tasty. So Im still working on a sharpening video cant seem to get the content and timing quite right but we will get it just might take some time to perfect so its right. Will keep putting up
any reports and pics. your snappers looked awesome I bet they grill up sweet!
Hey I wanted to ask what are the firearms laws down under is it legal to own
them and are there restrictions.......just curious.
As my good friend says "cheers"

I made a big pot of fish head soup stock, grilled the wings and froze the fillets for later.
Quite a lot of food from 5 snapper

For some reason I don't like smoked stuff anymore. Think I made too much and now I'm kinda over it. Used to love it and smoked all my fish heads and blue fish.

Not 100% sure about firearms in NZ.
But you need to register with the police and get a license and I think u need to be an active member in a gun club. Its not too easy to get a gun. Especially pistols have lots of restrictions.

Hunting is quite big in New Zealand though. Think rifles are easier to obtain.
But you can't just go to a shop and buy one.

cheers my friend
