Trout fishing video - caught a big rainbow trout on a soft bait | Category: Fishing Talk

check out my trout fishing video. Was a pretty exciting catch
I caught this one on the South Island, New Zealand a few weeks ago.
It was great sight fishing in a super clear small river. The access was a bit sketchy though and I almost slipped down the steep mud bank and fell into the river

I tried a few different lures and it followed each lure on the first cast. I thought I wont be able to catch it.
But when I changed to a soft bait for one last final cast, I got a solid hook up.

Nice catch.

I will have to take a closer look at this Youtube thingy. I am just not sure if I like the idea of not being able to have an actual Youtube account. You cannot actually open an account, you open a Google account and Youtube comes bundled with it.

It doesn't look steep and slippery. Did you try to slip in ? You could have tried harder haha

haha, yeah doesn't look so bad on the video.
There was only a tiny little muddy ledge to stand on.
It would have made for a cool video had I fallen in though Maybe next time I try harder.

Just open another google account, if you don't want your youtube linked to your main account.
I got myself a nice little action camera a while ago. It's called an Eken H9 - https://amzn.to/2KEZq6t and is far cheaper than a gopro.
I'm happy with it so far, except that the audio quality is really bad.

Yeah you should try harder next time. A good mud slip and slide is what we want to see haha

I got a Garmin VIRB. I don't see a model number so VIRB must be it. Top of the range and according to online reviews from computer magazines etc, it is (or was) regarded as the second best action camera in the world. That was from several well known mags like PC World etc.

I don't know why GoPro is the bench mark, maybe because they are popular, but they barley make it into the top 10

So I placed a bid and won it for $202. Brand new, in the box never opened. With the extras $1,200 worth

Funny though. All action cameras have poor audio. Garmin recommend using an external mic with this one. I think it's just that good mics are not small enough to fit in the casing.

I didn't know you could have 2 Google accounts. I thought Google was device specific.

Go Pro have excellent audio that's why they are the bench mark and the best.No substitutes

Yep, GoPro do have excellent audio...It is even better since they removed the microphone input jack and used that extra room to install a second Mono microphone.

GoPro even make it into the top ten. Which is no mean feat. At that level the experts start nit picking about colour and other petty things.

At the time I got the Garmin, I had a few days before the auction end, so I did some research. The seller made the mistake of having the auction listing end at 6pm Sunday night...haha...people are eating dinner and doing family stuff...so my bid won...$200 for a $1200 camera !!

At the time, I looked at expert reviews on about 12 maybe 15 reputable sites like PC World, Choice etc. Overall the Garmin was ranked at number 2 and 3 with the majority count being 2. The GoPro made it to 7 and 9 with a couple not even listing the GoPro in the top ten even though they did mention the GoPro in their blurb.

I don't know. Maybe the GoPro is the best and the expert reviewers are wrong. Or maybe the GoPro is cheap enough for millions of back-packers around the world to afford which would make it simply popular...

Catch a fish, film it with your GoPro, post it up and let us take a look

well the gopro isn't exactly cheap I certainly would have gotten one if it was cheaper.

The reason I choose the Eken over gopro was that it has good enough video quality for what I want and for the price.
I want to use it for SUP fishing and not having to worry about accidentally dropping a $500 cam over board.
If I loose the Eken, I can just buy another one and don't have to worry about it.
Also wasn't sure if I gonna use it long term and didn't want an expensive camera rotting away in the garage after one use.
It's a good enough beginner model. I guess as with any other purchase you gotta look for what best suits your situation and budget. I also like fiddling around with electronics and with the Eken I can muck around and fit an external microphone jack without fear of ruining it. Should I ever go pro with videos then I'll buy a gopro

The garmin looks good too. Seems like it works pretty good together with all the other garmin stuff.
For $200 I would take it too. Certainly not for $1200

Well, I now have a second Google account just for Fishing Reminder.

It said go to Google .com. But it would not allow me to, instead it just kept taking me to .com.au. It opens both acc at the same time by the looks of it.

I will have a play with it later.
