Banded parrotfish - a very tasty meal | Category: Fishing Talk

First time that I caught banded wrasse or banded parrotfish.
Good little fighters on light soft-bait gear.

It seems like people don't really target them much for eating over here.
But I found that they actually taste really good.
Very delicate white meat and easy to cook.

Hope to catch a few more.
They have really sharp teeth and destroy soft plastic lures in not time without getting hooked.
I got lots of bites and lost heaps of gear. Either they shredded the lures or they dragged them into the rocks really quick and I got snagged.

I grew up catching these at Shellharbour,,,,Hang on, I take that back, I never grew up and I refuse to grow up

I don't remember ever targeting them. They were always just a bi-catch. Taking small pieces of cut prawn, raw and cooked.

Thanks for the photo - it brings back memories

I used to just wrap them in foil then fry. They are slimey and hard to scale so always cooked whole (after gutting). Very nice eating.
