Hey everyone, I hope you are all safe and well.

Anyone that is not living under a rock will know that pretty much the whole world is in lockdown. I just wanted to reach out and ask how you are all doing? How are you coping with your lockdown?

You might not be calling it "lockdown" in your country...Here in Australia our Prime Sinister (sorry, typo, Minister), is doing every thing he can to avoid using the word "lockdown"... But a rose is a rose!!

For me the lockdown is having very little affect. My day to day life is quite simple really. I take the dog out in the morning. Then do any shopping that I need to do. If and when I can, I get some fishing in. With bush fires, drought and stuff, there hasn't been much in the way of fishing lately. But that is how things go...sometimes things are good and sometimes not-so-good.

So how are you coping? What are you doing to pass the time? Show us some pics of your lounge room fishing !!... I am planing on going "ice bucket" fishing tomorrow

Hey itsaboat.

I haven't been on here for a while due to a very active 18m old and working from home with him can be very challenging haha.

Which state are you mate? Realising that we can still fish in NSW, I'm planning on heading somewhere tomorrow, simply because I can, and maybe not for long.

I'm thinking of beach rod, hit some gutters and see where that takes me and hopefully I'll bring home a feed.

Take it easy mate.

I am near Wagga NSW.

An 18 month old and trying to work would be a hand full.

I have some bad news for you...You cannot go fishing.

They don't need to specify individual things. The new Law says you must NOT leave your house except for any of the 16 listed reasons. "house" includes yard. So you can go as far as the fence line. Go past the fence line and you are looking at $1,000 on the spot fine OR a Court notice. The Court can fine you $11,000 AND OR 6 months jail.

You can still walk the dog, because walking is "exercise". But if you happened to have a fishing rod whilst walking the dog on the beach the Police will probably not want to judge...So not knowing if you are walking or fishing the Police would issue you a Court notice.

If you are in a remote area and able to get away with it, good luck, let us know how you go

Dogs are happy and very busy in NZ at the moment!
He(or)She can go for work multiple times for a day. Each member of a family takes him for a walk every day!

I see people are doing more exercise than before lockdown. We can say Hi and smile from the distance, no more how are you doing and so on.

I try to think positive and enjoy this period of time

Hey mate,

Have you seen this?

This was only published Thursday by the Police minister, and it's reported in most fishing articles I've read.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-04-02/fishing-considered-passive-exercise-amid-coronavirus-lockdown/12114934
http://www.fishingworld.com.au/news/fishing-permitted-in-nsw

As long as social distancing measures are in place (I go fishing to be alone anyway haha).

But I do think it's only a matter of time before that's locked down so I'm going to make the most of it.

Take it easy.

Interesting...No I had not seen it or heard of it. But it was only published Thurs afternoon.

New Zealand officially banned all fishing and all water based activities, even swimming.
Good chance to learn some new knots, tie up traces and maintain all the fishing gear.
Hopefully this will all be over soon. It's hard not to go fishing, especially with near perfect conditions out there.

I am stocked up and ready for the long haul lockdown....

Is there anything I missed? Let me check...Vegemite - tomato sauce - 2 minute noodles - bag of chips and half a roll of toilet paper...6 casks of white wine and 4 bottles of Scotch ???

Nope, can't think of anything else...I have covered all the essentials...I am good for the next 2 weeks

jeeze, hope you're not planning to eat the vegemite on a sheet of toilet paper.
Mind you, it probably would give you the same amount of nutrition as eating it on a slice of cheap white supermarket toast.
You'd get a few more slices out of half a roll of toilet paper and later you can stuff and eat the nice tasty cardboard roll in the middle. And then wash it all down with a bit of casked white wine sounds like a good complement. ??

I'm jealous of those scotch bottles - I missed my chance and didn't go to a bottle shop before lockdown.

You are not missing much...It is probably well past it's use by date...It was a good 12 years old when they put it in the bottle...It's probably all moldy by now...

Yeah, you wouldn't want to drink it. 12 years before bottle?? Yeah it's gone off for sure...I might just use for cooking

Better send it to me for proper recycling. I don't want you to risk your health by using this expired scotch for cooking.

I am not falling for your scam...

I sent a bottle of out of date Scotch just last week "for testing and re-dating"...and this is what I got back ---

Who are they trying to kid...Look at it. There is no litmus paper in the bottle. How did they test it without litmus paper ???

But the real give-a-way that it's a scam is they ask for 2 glasses !!! How can you possibly test 3 bottles with only 2 glasses ???....They must think I was born yesterday !!

No, I think it is best if I just use it to make scones...Hang on. Bugger...no flour. I have only got 2 minute noodles and 1/2 a bag of chips...Oh well, I guess the scones will just be "different"

I thought you don't need flour since you got such a nice roll of toilet paper.
Just mix that with a little scotch and baking powder, make a dough and then bake. Voila there's your scone ?

Btw, I would never think of tricking you into such a scam with your expired scotch.
I would sincerely recycle this and would never ask for ice or glasses. big promise! just send it over here quickly so you don't expose yourself to any further health risks. Also it might be illegal to keep such an old scotch at these times. It might already have another new corona virus inside. I have all the facilities to dispose of this in a safe and very efficient way.

It turns out that I am good to go...

According to health experts, my 2 week supply is highly nutritious and well balance...

It contains all the fruit, vegetable and protein needed for 2 weeks...

Fresh squeezed grape juice (wine)...Whole grain cereal cooked and condensed into nutritious stock (whiskey)....Potato (chips)...Rice (2 minute noodles)...Fresh garden vegetables (tomato sauce).

The Vegemite, according to experts, is the only known antidote for out of date Scotch. Apparently you mix equal parts of Vegemite with 12 year old Scotch. The result is a beverage that normal people would not use to clean a toilet, which is the same as 3 year old Scotch - so it is drinkable !!

According to experts, Vegemite is also the only know natural enemy and cure for covid, HIV, AIDS, Ebola, SARS and tooth ache and tourists !!

N.Z authorities tell me that I can send you a bottle of out of date Scotch. But it must be PRE treated with Vegemite !!

well in that case I must politely withdraw my offer of recycling your scotch.

Yeah I found out about it yesterday too. Officially it's now clarified that fishing is a form of passive exercise, which should have been all along, BUT ... the missus still insists on not letting me go ... it's too dangerous ... virus is everywhere in the air, she feels. Oh well, no fishing for the foreseable future.

Mark Totzke 3 years ago
#7417

what if you wear a face mask while you fish? ?Perhaps the missus will let ya out then.
Wish we were allowed to fish as well. Can't see how a little surfcasting is more dangerous than cycling or crazy home exercises.

Oh, OK. The other day when I looked at it, it was just a media release and not "official".

The restrictions in NZ are not for fear of the virus...The same in Aus. But in Aus they seem to be a little more relaxed.

The issue they are concerned about is search and rescue !!

If some one goes fishing or boating or camping or hunting etc, etc and is reported "over due"...well, it becomes search and rescue. Thankfully almost all people are found safe and well. Some, not so lucky....But every case MUST be treated as an emergency and a search and rescue launched.

The logistics of a S&R is huge. Doctors and hospital put on notice. Choppers put in the air. Boats launched. Police, Ambo's....etc etc. It can involve HUNDREDS of people and MILLIONS of dollars.

Probably 98% of the time it is a false alarm...But the people on the front line right now just don't need false alarms. So the solution is to tell people people. Because you cannot ask people. Look at what is happening when TELLING people - they are looking for "loop holes", imagine if they were just "asked" !!!

Best mates ??!!

Ya know what this little alien @#$&^%er just threatened with with ??

He said "open the Dimple"....

I said "NO"...

Paul Da Alien said "open the Dimple or I will beam it DOWN to Totzke"...

I said "Don't you mean you will beam it UP to Scottie"..

Paul Da Alien said "Try me and find out"

Well, under such threats the risk was to high...So I opened the Dimple !! Fine drop it is too. Just right for a lockdown and quarantine !! Pitty you can't get any over there - I know what you are missing out on !!

well, they decided to extend the full level 4 lockdown in NZ for another week. Still no fishing until then. ?
And possibly not even kayak fishing if they go down one level as the rule in level 3 will be no fishing from boats.

Anyway it will probably be a welcome opportunity for those who like to watch and report others for breaking lockdown rules in one way or another.

I heard that on the news...But on the news they said restriction will be eased in another week...

I guess its whether the glass is half full or half empty

I was hoping to go ice bucket fishing but I can't find a video edit software to work on Linux...I might just have to go with photos.
