1300 --- I Am Getting Old | Category: Fishing Talk

Look at that...This is my 1300th post.

In reality, it is more than 1300. Several years ago Mark done some up grades and deleted about 100 or 200 post counts...But it is OK. He can't help it...I remember the time he couldn't tell the difference between a brown trout and a rainbow trout...But don't mention that, he gets upset about it

We have had our up's and down's. It has been about 12 years. There has been times when Mark put me in my place and some times I have put him in his place. It is all good and I would not change a thing about the whole trip. It has been 12 years and about 1500 comments and I have loved every moment of it.

I have never asked for anything. But I have been given more than I could ask for. Sure, we have had some bad apples along the way. But all in all this has been an amazing journey and I love every one of you for being part of that journey.

I remember the young mother that came to the Forum asking for advice so she could take her boys fishing. I remember Ted getting a little upset at my sense of humor...The Uni student. But I wont mention that cos that was one that Mark put me in my place over hahaha...12 years of memories that will go with me for ever.

So, you are thinking this is a "dear John" post....hahaha...WRONG !!

I think it was at 500 posts, I offered to pay for a T-shirt to any and everyone that could catch up to me...Well, I am going to up the anti now that I have reached 1300 - I will personally pay for 2 T-shirts for anyone that can catch up to me.

The rules --- Well, this is a surprise to Mark for starters cos I have not put it past him hahaha. So, the rules, I am paying !! Catch up to me on real and genuine posts and I will buy you 2 Fishing Reminder T-shirts. That is it, that is the rules.

I thank you all and I love you all for allowing me to be part of this wonderful journey.

Wow great achievement. You are on fire with more than 100 posts per year or 2 posts per week on average. Your official posting speed is around 0.012 posts per hour, haha.

Can't believe it's already been 12 years of fishingreminder, eh. And thankfully you've been here pretty much right from the start and helped many with your knowledge and advice.

FR actually started off before the first iPhone came out. Hard to believe now - a world without smart phones and yet it's only a little over a decade ago.

I think I will have to take you up on your challenge. Two Fishing Reminders T-shirts sounds pretty good. I'm in urgent need for some new ones, haha.

I'd have to go 10 times faster at a speed of 0.12 posts per hour to catch up with you in one year.
That would mean a minimum of 2.88 posts per day consistently for one year. Hard work.

Hmmm...2.88 per day - That would be assuming that I never post in reply to your post ...like this post !

Actually, if you combine your old acc with this one, your total is not far off...New rule - No combining different acc totals

Well I’ve only been fishing just over a year since we hit the road in Australia so don’t think I’m ever going to catch up with you. This site has been a tremendous help though a d I love looking at the photos of what other people have caught. Whenever we go back to England I’ll hopefully keep up with this fishing malarkey but it’ll have to be rivers and canals rather than the ocean and estuary of over here.

Good luck to whoever takes you up on your challenge.

Thanks John.

Carp fishing is very big in England. They spend $1,000's on it.

We don't have a lot of input from England for some reason. Don't know why. FR works for both fresh and salt water, rivers, ponds and dams. Maybe you might be the first to give us some English carp fishing pic and stories.

Hi John

The last time I was in England, I've done a little sea fishing. Well it was actually Scotland, up near Glasgow.
There are good mackerel runs and they can be targeted on lures and soft baits. That was good fun.

I believe there's also some good flounder and cod fishing. Both can also be caught on lures. I even read somewhere that you can catch squid in England at times.

The freshwater options are a little boring, I'd say. Carp fishing isn't the most exciting. Although supposedly you can catch them on lures as well. Trout fishing in Scotland is very expensive and regulated. Perch and Pike are good freshwater options for lure fishing.

Will be interesting to see how you get on in England. It will be quite a change from the fishing in Australia.

Yes I'm not fussed about sitting with a pole doing carp fishing but they're a good fight on light spinning gear. I'm guessing it'll mostly be perch/pike/chubb fishing as I live in Derbyshire which is about as far from the sea as you can get. There are a few trout streams though so that could be an option.
