Hi Mark,

I just bought a new Android tablet running 4.4 KitKat.

The play store says that the Pro App is not compatible (but I don't have a Paypal account anyway).

The Free App says it is compatible, but I cannot get it. I see it on my laptop but when I search with the tablet, it does not even show. I have it on my smart phone running, from memory, 4.1 or 4.2 KitKat. That is both the free and Pro do not show in the play store on the tablet. If I go through the web site, I see it but you only have the Pro linked.

I can see the tablet when connected to the laptop but even trying that is not working. I might be able to use a third party sync App to force the tablet to speak to the PC.

I just checked, the phone is running 4.2.2 but it doesn't say if it is KitKat or Jellybean. From my end it looks like there is a compatibility issue with the newer Android...or maybe just tablets in general.

PS. Can't edit the title line, a

Hey itsaboat,

how is it going, still house sitting in queensland?

Hmm - thats weird. I'll look into it.
What kind of tablet is it?

This is the link for Fishing Times Free:

Try if that comes up on your new tablet.

cheers

Hi Mark,

Things are going good.

Still house sitting but now in Kempsey NSW. Next week I head to Nowra to sit a house for 3 weeks over Christmas. Then I have a two year house sit booked near Wagga.

I will try the link and let you know if it works.

The tablet might be going back for refund...I only bought it because it has SD card expansion, I could make it 48GB. Only to find that from Android 4.4 onwards SD cards are no longer supported. I have contacted the retailer and the supplier. So if you have a smartphone or tablet running Android 4.4 or above, your SD card is useless..!!

Will test the link shortly and let you know.

Cheers
Neil

OK, the link works. But it says it is not compatible with my tablet.

It is an Onix from Aldi. They sold thousands of them on Wednesday... Gonna be a lot of disappointed kids at Christmas when they find their SD cards don't work !!

I have asked the supplier to provide manufacturer and model number details. Guess I won't get a reply from them till next week.

I am new to tablets and android. Is there any thing I can look up in settings etc that might be of help to you... I mean apart from bookmarked porn sites and bank details

thanks for checking.

I'm guessing that google might have changed something recently and added some extra requirements for tablets.
I'll have to check it and most likely have to update the app to make it compatible.
Great that you bought a tablet and encountered this issue, otherwise I would have missed it
Shame about the SD Card though.

Although I got a Galaxy 5 with Android 5.0 installed.
I'm using a 32GB Micro SD Card with it and it works fine.
Maybe something wrong with the particular Aldi Tablet.

haha - besides porn sites and bank details I don't need any other infos for now.
I'll do some research first and see if I can update the app.

cheers

That is interesting. I have looked at some sites learning about "rooting" the tablet so as to turn the SD support back on. Most of them have 5.0 at the top of the list....according to the online "experts" all android from 4.4 do not support SD cards...oh well, my rant to Aldi is already sent

Hey Mark,

I have done some more reading. I was researching how to save files to SD card in android. But when I research SD card support, things are a little different...

Seems that years of complaints has made Google include full SD support in 6.0, with an extra...From what I have read so far, Android 6.0 will not just support SD but will also allow what they call "adopt". The adopt feature will allow the external SD card to be adopted or joined to the internal storage, making one single storage drive.

Android 6.0 is due for release soon...whatever that means. If my 4.4 can be upgraded to 6.0 is yet to be seen. Since I only bought this thing brand new only 3 days ago, I am going to be pretty P-off if it cannot be upgraded...not that I am not already P-off that I can't use my 3 day old tablet already !!!...That is use as advertised.

Bottom line is, yes it seems that Google is intent on changing things. It might be a good idea to keep half an eye on what they are doing, just incase the Apps need to be updated.

The tablet has been returned for refund. A complaint has been filed with ACCC for misleading advertising.

As this was the first tablet I have ever touched, it's a learning curve.

It turns out that the screen res is simply too low. This tablet is not compatible with many if not most apps.

well at least you could return it.
I would go with a samsung tablet.
Can't really trust the Aldi technology stuff.
I heard some bad stories about the laptops they sometimes sell as well.
