Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 16:37 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

Next New Moon in ~14 days on 14th July
Full Moon is generally a productive time for fishing - especially night fishing. Bright nights mean that many predators feed more actively during the night. During full moon the gravitational pull is in line with the gravitational pull of the sun, affecting all wildlife and increasing feeding behaviour.
  • Distance to earth:
    403,808 km
    Proximity:
    4.4 %
We can compare the current moon distance to it's minimum and maximum distance from earth and express that as proximity. A high proximity means the moon is closer to earth. At 50% it would be at it's mean distance. A high proximity causes big tides, currents and has a direct effect on increased bite times. A proximity greater than 90% indicates a super moon.

For fishing, stronger tides are often favourable as they cause stronger currents and more motion on the sea bed. The above tidal coefficients give us an indication of how strong the tides are compared to their average. A value over 90 indicates very strong tides, known as spring tides. A low value indicates weak tides, known as neap tides. The tidal coefficient can range from 20 to 120 with a mean value of 70. A higher number usually indicates better fishing.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. Fishing Overview Bath

Fishing in Bath, UK is dominated by the River Avon, which flows right through the city and offers classic West Country coarse fishing. Mixed species shoals, powerful river carp, and big river pike all live within easy reach of public access points, bridges and towpaths. Within a short drive you also have commercial-style lakes, traditional club ponds and canal-style stretches, giving Bath-based anglers plenty of options in all seasons.

On the River Avon through Bath, chub, roach and bream are the mainstay. Chub to 5 lb+ hold under overhanging trees, trailing branches and along crease lines; trotted maggots or bread flake on light gear are reliable, especially in clear winter water. In milder months, cage feeder tactics with groundbait and caster, hemp or maggot find quality roach and skimmers on the slower bends and deeper lanes. Look for changes in pace where the main flow pushes past slack water – these transition lines often carry the bulk of the fish.

Barbel and carp are realistic river targets around Bath. Barbel favour pacey gravel runs and tails of deeper holes; focus on dusk into dark with meat, pellets or boilies fished on robust gear and pinned-down rigs to avoid line-bite spookiness. Avon carp patrol marginal snags, marinas and bridge pilings. Stalking with floaters on calm evenings or dropping small boilies and wafters into tight, shady spots can out-fish static big-bed approaches. Travel light, use polarised glasses and spend more time looking than casting.

Pike and perch come into their own from late autumn through early spring. Pike lie along boat channels, reed margins and near marinas, where shoals of roach congregate. Deadbaits such as smelt or herring fished on simple float-ledger rigs score well, but in coloured water a loud, slow-rolled soft lure can be more visible. Perch hunt around structure – moored boats, lock gates and bridge supports – and respond to small dropshot lures, worm-tipped jigs and maggot feeder rigs with a red maggot hookbait.

Seasonally, spring and early summer see rising water temperatures and increasing activity. Target chub and dace on the float as they move into shallower, faster runs, while bream and roach gather on steady glides. In high summer, low clear water often demands finer end tackle, smaller hooks and natural baits like hemp and caster. Early mornings and late evenings outperform the bright middle of the day, particularly in busy urban reaches where boat traffic and disturbance peak.

Autumn is arguably the prime time for Bath’s Avon fishing. Cooling water consolidates silver fish into tight shoals and predators shadow them. This is the period to combine a feeder rod for roach and skimmers with a second rod for pike or perch where allowed, keeping mobile until you locate fish. In winter, pick your days around steadier river levels and slight colour; chub fishing with bread or cheese paste tight to cover can be outstanding, while pike respond well to static deadbaits presented in deeper holes.

Beyond the main river, local stillwaters and ponds around Bath hold carp, tench, crucians, rudd and perch in more controlled environments. Commercial-style venues often respond to method feeders, waggler tactics and short-pole approaches over micros and pellets. On more traditional club lakes, simple float fishing with bread, corn or worms close in can produce steady nets without overfeeding. Wherever you fish around Bath, travelling light, staying observant and tailoring rigs to water clarity and flow levels are the biggest tactical edges you can give yourself.

Beaches and Bays are ideal places for land-based fishing. If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes. We found 11 beaches and bays in this area.
