Funny looking fish ?! Why dogfish?

They often hunt in packs. Just like wild dogs will form a pack or group to actively hunt their food. Many, many years ago sharks in general were considered wild dogs of the sea because of their savage nature.

Oh ho! Clear answer to that. Thanks. Sharks are very interesting fish. I don't know many other edible sharks apart from the rig shark. I tried a piece of shark sashimi in Korea a long time ago. It didn't taste good. SO I have had the prejudice that all the sharks are not edible. But I love to see them. They look different^^

All sharks are edible. In fact for many decades shark was sold as flake. Larger sharks although still edible contain heavy metals including mercury. It is probably not a good idea to eat sharks larger than about 6 or 7 foot. If you want to do some research...you will find ancient drawings of dog headed sharks and shark headed dogs. I am talking drawings that date back 500 or 1000 years or more. It is an interesting subject to research if you are into that sort of thing.

Here is a start point for you - https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/library-tales-worlds-oldest-monsters-180970471/ - You will find some good info if you use "monster" and "creature" in your search...Just remember that you are looking at "known science" from 500 years or even 2000 years ago...:)

Here is another interesting site - https://www.strangescience.net/stsea2.htm - Near the top of the page is a nice image clearly showing the head of a dog on a fish. It is from the year 1491, more than 500 years ago. It is followed by another interesting image of a pig headed fish attacking a boat from the same year, 1491....Then if you scroll down a little more there is a very interesting image from the year 1560. Showing what might be a dog or wolf or owl faced fish, believed to be a great white shark or killer whale....and that is where the dogfish gets its name from :)
