I always buy the cheap shimano fx 4000 reels and spool them up with braided line.
They last for about two years kayak fishing with the occasional dip in salt water and then
I replace them. Only costs me around $50 per reel.
I found that more economic then investing in really expensive reels.
Too much hassle for me to look after and maintain the expensive ones and having to worry about loosing them on the kayak.
I just give the cheap shimano reels a quick rinse with fresh water after fishing and that's it.
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.
