Hi, I live in Sacramento Ca and love Trout fishing in the Sierras lakes..I'm always looking for someone to join me, and find new places and tips, currently I use inflatable pontoon boats with trolling motors on them, works great for getting to hard to reach lake areas and silent trolling.

Hi zookeepr

How long does the battery of the trolling motor last and what size do you use.
What sort of speed to you get?

I was thinking of installing a trolling motor on my kayak

I use a Optima Blue top gell battery, and when they were new 4-5 years ago they would last 2-3 days of fishing trolling etc. and now 10 to 15 hours constant use and the biggest trolling motor I have is 46 LBS thrust and I dont know how fast it goes but is moves pretty good my best guess is 15 MPH?? If your thinking about building one let me know and I will tell you all the msitakes I made

Hey zookeepr

That's an awesome fishing machine. I would love to hear some tips for building one. I primarliy want to use it for salt water fishing.

I first thought of just adding a motor to my hobie kayak.
But your boat looks so awesome that I might consider a pontoon like this instead.

What brand is your boat?

Thank You, they have been years in the making..First I built a 8" Cimmaron and then a 8' trout unlimited, I didnt know it when I bought them, but both are made by or dist. by Classic Accesories, and after a few parts problems like replacement bladder not available for the Trout Unlimited I would recommend another brand maybe Bucks Bags???. First thing I would add to any inflatable pontoon and I dont know why they are not stock is a Keel that runs as deep as possible,it makes the boat drivable and alot more fun to use I used 1/8 Plexiglass and clamped it to the center of the frame, after that I would recommend a steering control arm on the trolling motor, everything else I think is available thru supply houses?? I would be glad to show you the tricks I have done to mine anytime.
