Hi guys and gal's, new to the site. Any West Ozzie's here? Looking to fish, beach, rocks, marina's in the Northern suburbs of perth. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hillarys, ocean reef & Mindarie Marina's all worth a go & the beaches adjacent to marina's! U'll get tailor when the sea breeze comes in, (tailor feed & hide in the chop of the waves) can be a pain trying to cast into the wind but be persistent & u will get a feed! Msg back if wanting anymore info!

Several years ago I read an article claiming that tailor can grow to more than 90kg off the WA coast. After seeing what I have seen in the water over the years, I would not doubt it...

However, the largest actually caught and landed that I know of was around 17kg. It is not uncommon to get 10kg +.

Tailor are very aggressive and grow very fast. When they are running pretty much anything shiny in the water will get a strike. I have even seen them caught on a teaspoon.

Thanks guys, just got home from Mindarie marina. Everything looked good, the site even says excellent fishing for the next few days. Had some bites on first arrival even saw small schools close to the rocks but nothing. What could we possibly be doing wrong?

Without knowing what the fish were near the rocks, it is any ones guess. You will find lots of small juvenile fish near rock walls.

Thanks M8. We tried bait, squid, octopus and mulie. Also tried softbait lures, cast into the middle of the entrance. Alot of weed I thought for a marina entrance. Some kids on the other side were catching under size snapper. Tide coming in, overcast, sunset, new moon. Go figure

You might be right...All I remember is thinking that is bigger than me.

I read it about the time I started live baiting off the rocks. So about 20 or 22 years ago. I was starting to get into Fishing World mag (and ended up with 15 years of issues...complete!!) so maybe I read it in Fishing World.
